Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma was detained at Mumbai airport on Monday for not declaring some dutiable items in her luggage.
The actress was returning from IIFA in Toronto where she won the Best Actress trophy. However, upon her return she was detained by the custom officials at Mumbai airport for carrying undeclared items like jewellery and other fashion accessories in her luggage.
The actress was detained and questioned. Her manager is reported to have said that the items were borrowed and Anushka needs to do some formal paperwork with the custom officials.
Anushka is the fourth Bollywood celebrity to be detained by the custom officials in a short time. Just last month, Minissha Lamba was detained for 16 hours for carrying jewellery worth many lakhs in her baggage. Then, Bipasha Basu was also detained for attempting to evade custom duties and had to pay about 12,000 rupees. A few days later, Mallika Sherawat’s brother Vikram was also detained for carrying more than permissible foreign exchange.
