Aishwarya Rai made the trip to Delhi to accept the Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres honor from the French government but asked for the ceremony to be postponed.
On hearing news of bomb blasts in Mumbai, Aishwarya did not feel that it was the right time to celebrate and made the request for the ceremony to be rescheduled to a later date. A few years ago Aishwarya had asked for the ceremony to be postponed as her father was unwell.
Hubby Abhishek Bachchan accompanied Aishwarya as did father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, who expressed his shock on Twitter, "Bomb blasts in Mumbai .. !! God ! I hope people are safe," Amitabh Bachchan tweeted.
Aishwarya made a statement saying, "We are very shocked with the news of the blast. Our prayers are with the people affected. It is important for us Indians to stand strong and tell the perpetrators of terrorism that they cannot shake us. We believe that justice will be done. We pray for the victims and their families."
Aishwarya has not made many public appearances since news of her pregnancy broke and everyone had been waiting in anticipation to catch a glimpse of the actress.
Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan made an appearance at the venue around 9pm accompanied by Jerome Bonnafont, the French ambassador to India, who made a statement stating that out of respect for the victims of the tragedy it had been decided to postpone the ceremony to a later date.
