Is Freida Pinto just another pretty face in Hollywood!

Freida Pinto is once again in the limelight and this time it’s not because of what she wears but for her film Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which has opened to packed houses and is a worldwide hit. The actress gets her second hit after Slumdog Millionaire. But what is she doing in the film, which also stars the Oscar-nominee James Franco? Does she pack in a performance worth reckoning or is she just a pretty face?

Though critics say that Freida looks beautiful and is a pleasant factor in the film, most of them thought that she doesn’t have much to do in the movie. Her character of an assistant to vet (James Franco) was not ‘well-written’. Is she the sidekick?

Of course, “Pinto looks more beautiful than ever but is playing the most boringly decorous tag-along girlfriend seen onscreen in years,” writes a critic. One even said that she has no personality in the film.

There is no doubt that the young Indian actress has come a long way in Hollywood. She has films with good directors and banners. But analyzing her career, a New York magazine compares her with the sexy Halle Berry and writes, “Like Halle Berry before her, Pinto needs to prove that she has more going on than meets the eye.”

Her critics feel that she needs to push herself. She has a charming face and a style quotient to boast of, but when it comes to her acting there is very little to write about.

In fact, Freida Pinto received flak for her performance in Miral too, in which she had a challenging role of a Palestinian woman. Her last film, Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger also couldn’t do much wonders for her career. Now the actress needs to prove her mettle and show that she is more than a pretty face.
