|The lull before the storm has been palpable at the box office. One after another, the films released in August have been falling flat like ninepins. Now the month closes on a high note with the release of Salman Khan’s much-anticipated film Bodyguard.
The film releases on Wednesday and has the advantage of picking up during the first two days of Eid festivities followed by the weekend. Advance booking has already started at both single screen theatres and multiplexes and the reports have been encouraging so far.
According to trade estimates, the film is expected to take a mammoth start at the box office. The opening figures can range anywhere between 70 percent to 90 percent and even packed houses at some centres.
The fact that Salman Khan, the film’s main draw, hasn’t been able to promote the film since the last few days because of his ill health (check out what’s ailing Salman), isn’t going to dent the film’s collections.
In fact, the movie is expected to rake in as much as Rs. 85 crores over its first five days. If it does, it will create box office history. Till now, Dabangg holds the record for being the highest grosser for the first five days with a figure of Rs. 68.12 crore nett, followed by 3 Idiots on the second spot with Rs. 57.74 crore nett.
Meanwhile, all the new releases of last Friday -- Shabri, Chitkabrey - The Shades of Grey and Yeh Dooriyan -- have fallen flat at the box office. All eyes are now on Bodyguard, which also stars Kareena Kapoor, Hazel Keech and has a special item by Katrina Kaif.
