How Lady Gaga improvised a Tarun Tahiliani sari for F1 party

Lady Gaga, the empress of anything and everything zany and eccentric, opted for a Tarun Tahiliani sari for her maiden gig in India on Sunday.

The American singer’s wardrobe is never short of outrageous outfits, but for her performance at the Formula One after-party hosted by Arjun Rampal, she wanted to wear something that had a distinct Indian touch. So she requested Rampal’s wife Mehr Jessia to have her sent a couple of dresses from Indian designers. Jessia obviously chose Tarun Tahiliani.

“I got a call from Mehr (Arjun Rampal's wife) saying that Gaga wanted to see a few sarees. So I had sent her a few outfits and our trademark drapes worn with cholis. She was so overwhelmed by the dresses that she chose one among them for her performance, leaving the ones she had brought with her already,” Tahiliani is quoted as saying by a news agency.

Gaga, who teamed the shiny dress with flowy blonde hair, even announced on stage that she was wearing a sari by Tahiliani.

Now, those who are wondering if the dress in the image above is indeed the sari, Lady Gaga revealed during her performance that she improvised the Tahiliani sari.

“So what I did was I took the sari (by Tahiliani) and ripped it to shreds and I made it a little bit more New York,” said Gaga during her performance.
