Mundeya nu thug vi liya, Jazba bhi dikha liya, but then, too, what went wrong with the music of Ladies V/s Ricky Bahl? We would still prefer the tracks of Band Baaja Baaraat than the songs of Ladies V/s Ricky Bahl any day! Aiala!

Music composers Salim-Sulaiman are back with Ladies V/s Ricky Bahl, and we were all agog to hear something out of the ordinary.

Alas, our expectations came crashing down right from the day when the first song Aadat Se Mazboor met our eardrums. Granted that the smart conman Ricky Bahl (Ranveer Singh) was introduced to us in rather jazzy way in the song, but its utterly uncatchy tune ensured that playing this song in loop became an aadat for nobody. In fact, even the singer Benny Dayal’s silky vocals don’t prevent you from hitting the fast-forward button. Flick!

Then came Jazba! The song had its moments, but it was peppy yet lacked pulp; it was fast but not furious. And we also loved Anushka Sharma’s dance in the song, despite her pencil-thin figure. But considering the title of the song and the track being Anushka’s introductory number, it fizzled out soon. Ho Hum!

Thug Le came as a respite. The movie required songs like this to be in the league of Band Baaja Baaraat. With its ritzy background and groovy beats Thug Le managed to leave an impression, and is also on the charts. The song is nice, but the opening tune reminds us of Romanian composer-singer Edward Maya’s popular track Desert Rain. The international performer was also in India a few months back.

Next in the line is Jigar Da Tukda, delivered very well by Salim Merchant and Shweta Pandit. The number is on the lines of Ainvayi Ainvayi but mellows down a bit and goes the romantic way with its sugary yet tangy lyrics which are in Hipunglish (Hindi, Punjabi and English). As a result we hear lines like Yun Kar Ke Bahana, Aashiq Ko Latkana, Not Fair… Not Fair.

The album, surprisingly, has only four originals and the rest are remixes. There is even an instrumental. But nothing leaves the mark.

A Yashraj film is not just any movie; it comes with a complete package - entertainment, a good story, fine actors, and, almost without fail, a delightful music album. But the music of Ladies V/s Ricky Bahl is an exception. Its lyrics are pedestrian and music strictly mediocre. We just hope the movie fares better than the album. Otherwise the fans might be heard cribbing: Hum toh ainvaye ainvaye lut gaye.
