The ApunKaChoice movie review of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. Readers, your mission, should you choose to accept it or reject it, is to go and watch Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol asap. This one is the cream of the crop of the MI series!
With so much hype surrounding Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, one would have thought the movie might not be able to stand up to the sky-high expectations! Satisfyingly, MI 4 not only stands up, but soars and cruises at a breakneck speed, through twists, turns, and jaw-dropping stunts to leave you breathless, speechless and on the edge of your cushy seat. In two words: a masterpiece.
MI 4 sees Tom Cruise back as agent Ethan Hunt. However, this time he is on his own and is not officially a member of the IMF coz the IMF has been shut down after being falsely drawn up for blowing up the Kremlin.
Ethan Hunt, along with Jane (Paula Patton), Benji (Simon Pegg) and Brandt (Jeremy Renner), must clear his and IMF’s name and prove his innocence! And believe me, he does that in style!
There are action sequences galore in the Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and each stunt turns out better than the previous one. The Burj Khalifa sequence is literally the high point of the film. It was nothing but sheer brilliance!
Speaking about the plot, there is not much depth to it. However, the overall experience of MI 4 gives you such an adrenaline rush that you certainly don’t mind ignoring the flimsy plot!
Tom Cruise as agent Ethan Hunt completely justifies his on-screen surname and ‘hunts’ and steals away your hearts with his performance! And since the makers claim that no body-doubles were used in the Burj Khalifa scene, we doff our hat to Cruise. Being plucky is one thing, but being spunky and stylish in one go is a different ballgame altogether. And Cruise never loses his strut and swagger as he looks danger straight in the eye, and pulls off the death-cheating stunts with such elan that we can’t help but say he is one of a kind.
Paula Patton as Jane and Jeremy Renner as Brandt, act well, and look well! Simon Pegg as Benji is humorous! If action sequences weren’t enough to keep your eyes glued to the screen, humourous moments, too, keep coming throughout the movie.
Director Brad Bird has done a laudable job! Despite the simple plot, Brad has managed to create a stunning cinematic triumph! Kudos!
The background score of the movie is exciting, and so is the cinematography; the sand storm shot needs a special mention here!
Though the movie has rare references from the past MI movies, we would still advise you to watch the earlier installments before going for this one! If nothing else, watch the third installment: Mission: Impossible III for sure!
And all the Indian fans who have been scrolling down to know how impressive their Jhakkas actor Anil Kapoor was in the film, the actor makes a small appearance as Brij Nath but leaves a noteworthy impact! Despite the fact that some might argue his character was dim-witted, we just loved it when Anil said: “I am hot, all Indian males are hot.” His entry was welcomed with wolf whistles in the cinema hall!
On the whole, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is easily the best MI movie to date. I just can’t help humming the signature MI tune!
All the action-flick lovers, a treat awaits you in the form of MI 4! Be ready to get goosebumped and thrilled! We give MI 4 as many stars as the installment it is: 4!
Final verdict - 4 out of 5! Go for it! And don’t be bothered; this review will not self-destruct in five seconds. Tee-hee.
