How Deepika pipped Katrina to star in Rajinikanth’s ‘Kochadaiyaan’?

When the rumours of Rajinikanth’s film Kochadaiyaan started floating around, the name of only one actress was prominent in them -- Katrina Kaif. But to everyone’s shock it was Deepika Padukone who landed the big project. How it happened, why suddenly Deepika’s name was confirmed for the role opposite Rajinikanth?

Recently Katrina Kaif’s PR was active saying that the actress loves southern cinema and is eager to star in the films. Kat was also apparently campaigning to bag Kochadaiyaan. However, when Kochadaiyaan was announced, not only Kat but many big Bollywood beauties started sending out feelers to Soundarya R Ashwin (Rajinikanth’s daughter who is directing the film). And, yes, it’s true; the makers of the film were in talks with Katrina Kaif.

But it seems the movie was never meant to be Kat’s, because, despite best efforts she couldn’t manage the dates for the film. And soon Soundarya announced that it’s Deepika Padukone who will romance her appa. Deepika previously made adjustments for Rana (announced last year before Rajini Sir fell seriously sick) and also now for Kochadaiyaan.

It’s even heard that Rajinkanth only wanted to work with Deepika, be it Rana or Kochadaiyaan.

Naturally, Deepika is elated that she bagged Kochadaiyaan, India’s first 3D film to be made in performance capture technology, that, too, opposite Rajinikanth.
