First look - Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi in political thriller ‘Shanghai’
The fans of the maverick director Dibakar Banerjee have a reason to be elated as the director is coming up with his first big budget film Shanghai. A lot has been said and written about the film ever since it was announced last year. Now, as the movie’s first look is out, the picture gets clearer.

PVR Pictures and Dibakar Banerjee’s film Shanghai, as its title would suggest, is not related to any action film but is a hardcore political thriller based on land grabbing and skewed redevelopment. Made on a lavish budget, Dibakar is excited with his first mainstream film that brings together two varied schools of acting in Abhay Deol (middle-of-the-road-cinema) and Emraan Hashmi (hardcore commercial), who have undergone a complete metamorphosis.

If you are wondering what Abhay is doing in a suit and tie and sporting that shapely moustache, here is the answer: the actor plays a South Indian with name Mr Krishnan. While Emraan Hashmi looks rugged, he too is sporting a mouche as he gets to play Jogi Parmar, a wheeler-dealer.

Shanghai also stars Kalki Koechlin and Bengali superstar Prosenjit. PVR Pictures has backed the project, which they found as an extraordinary story, made even more powerful by Dibakar’s unmatched artistry.

Dibakar Banerjee is even quick to warn, “All through the film, the principal characters are either hunting or being hunted.” The promo of Shanghai will come out soon and is going to be an engaging, thrilling affair. The movie will release on June 8.
