The shooting of Salman Khan’s much awaited Dabangg 2 is to begin next week in Mumbai, but the film is already setting new business records. How?
The satellite rights of the film has been bought by Star Network, reportedly for a whopping price of Rs. 48 crore or even Rs. 50 crore. This is the highest figure any Bollywood film has fetched from the satellite rights. The Star Network will have the telecast rights of Dabangg 2 for 11 years, according the deal.
The cherry on the top is that the music rights of the film has been sold to T-Series for about Rs. 10 crores.
The Star Network has confirmed the deal but has not disclosed the amount paid to the producer Arbaaz Khan for the satellite rights.
Some reports indicate that the deal might have been signed not for Rs. 50 crore but around Rs. 42 crore.
So far, only Karan Johar’s Agneepath and Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Talaash have touched the Rs. 40 crore figure when it comes to satellite rights. Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish 3 has been sold for Rs. 37 crores.
But the whopping amount that Salman Khan’s Dabangg 2 has raked in goes to show the curiosity surrounding the film. The film’s main draw would obviously be its leading actor Salman Khan. The film will be directed by Arbaaz Khan and would feature Sonakshi Sinha, Mahi Gill, Arbaaz and Prakash Raj. It will hit the theatres around Christmas 2012.
