Box office update: Vidya Balan’s ‘Kahaani’ is a hit!

Vidya Balan continues to strike gold at box office. After the success of The Dirty Picture last year, the actress now has another hit movie in her filmography: Kahaani.

Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, Kahaani completed its first week run at box office on a triumphant note, by netting in Rs. 24 crore in seven days. The film has been praised by critics for its Hitchcockian suspense though its climax has met with mixed responses. But Vidya Balan unequivocally won the plaudits again for her acting and it’s no wonder that she is already celebrating the success of the film.

Meanwhile, the last week’s releases Chaurahen and Say Yes To Love have failed to attract any crowd whatever. The opening weekend response was between zero to five percent.

On the other hand, Paan Singh Tomar continued its formidable run in week two and rounded off its two-week collections with a figure of Rs. 10.50 crore. Given the shoe-string budget the film was made on, it’s a HIT.

The coming Friday would see the release of Agent Vinod, starring Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Coincidentally, all the films Saif and Kareena have done so far have been flops. Will Agent Vinod break the jinx?
