Critics reviews for Housefull 2

Housefull 2 movie reviews roundup. Director Sajid Khan had declared the movie a blockbuster even before it’s release, and even though the critics are mostly labeling Housefull 2 as mindless, audiences are lapping up the funny in this no-brainer comedy. The Akshay Kumar - John Abraham starrer has had a huge opening at the box office and the run is expected to continue over the weekend.

Most critics have panned Housefull 2 outright, as a childish, silly comedy. But the aam janta seems to have liked the film and the cash registers are doing the talking at the box office.

As far as performances go, most critics have liked Akshay Kumar's comedic timing, Mithun Chakravarthy's portrayal of Jagga Daku or JD, and funny man Johnny Lever. Amongst the leading ladies Asin gets the meatiest part and does just about fine.

Here is the roundup of the movie reviews of Housefull 2 by various critics.

'Housefull 2' is a jolly good no-brainer!
Nikhil Kumar, ApunKaChoice.com
Rating: 2.5/5
The best acts are put up by Akshay Kumar and John Abraham, both playing conmen. Akshay’s comic timing is back in its groove, and the once wooden John shows a surprising knack to make you smile with his gauche act. Ritesh Deshmukh is sadly reduced to hollering his lines, while Shreyas Talpade has his squinty moments now and then. Among the ladies, only Asin gets some meat in the role. The others (Jacqueline Fernandez, Shazahn Padamsee and Zarine Khan) are merely confection to the comedy. Among the papas, Rishi Kapoor takes the cake, followed by Mithun Chakraborty, Boman Irani and Randhir Kapoor, in that order.

Verdict: Peg your expectations low and don’t hope for clever humour from Housefull 2 and chances are you will find this film a jolly good entertainer.

Jokes get choked in the comic ritual of repetition in 'Housefull 2'
Subhash K. Jha (IANS), ApunKaChoice.com
Rating: 3/5
"Housefull 2" takes the comic vein further than the first Housefull film. Sajid's plot, characters and situations keep the chuckle fest vibrant and alive till the end. This is at times a wicked and funny farce with sparkling comic talent displayed by every male actor

'Housefull 2' is for four-year-olds
Rajeev Masand, CNN-IBN
Rating: 1/5
Housefull 2 is for four-year-olds who don’t know any better. For anyone with taste, or anyone seeking genuine laughs, there’s nothing here. I’m going with one out of five for director Sajid Khan’s Housefull 2. I’d rather watch reruns of his TV shows instead; they were pure gold compared to this drivel!

Anupama Chopra's review: Housefull 2
Anupama Chopra, Hindustan Times
Rating: 2/5
But mostly, Housefull 2 was so exhausting that at one point, I grew nostalgic for Rohit Shetty's Golmaal series - another full-blown nonsensical outing but with far more energy than this. However, the actors all look like they are having fun - Akshay Kumar and John Abraham also get to show off some nifty fight moves in a few pasted-on action sequences, which of course have little bearing on anything else. But the actresses are locked into a weird pouting contest. Each one sports lips that seem especially inflated for their close-ups. And the acting is laughably bad - Shazahn Padamsee and Zarine Khan (who inexplicably plays a character named JLo) are the joint winners of the worst performance award.

Housefull 2 is shamefully bad
Raja Sen, Rediff
Rating: 1/5
Housefull 2 is shamefully bad. So bad that Ranjeet - the rapey villain of yore - who appears in one scene, is the most dignified thing about the film.

Housefull 2 is neither fully gratifying nor a house-of-horror like its prequel
Gaurav Malani, TNN (Times Of India)
Verdict: Above Average
The most amusing act comes from beyond the dirty dozen characters. It's Johnny Lever who's hilarious and is especially in his elements in the climax. Akshay Kumar is a pro at such comic characters and pulls off his part with effortless ease. John Abraham struggles with, both, his comic timing and expressions and seems uncomfortable in the role. Riteish Deshmukh is too good and his stuck-in-situation expressions are just priceless. Shreyas Talpade is good as long he lasts in his short-lived character. Amongst the senior actors, Mithun Chakravarthy gets the meatiest part and has strong screen presence. Rishi Kapoor is lively but Randhir Kapoor appears exhausted. Boman Irani hams. The actresses have pretty much nothing to do than looking good. So Jacqueline Fernandes wins the race with her gorgeous looks and Shahazn Padamsee comes a close second. Asin does just about fine for herself. Zareen Khan is irritating and thankfully underutilized. Malaika Arora is regular. Ranjeet, by spoofing himself in a cameo, has perhaps played the most entertaining role of his career.

Housefull 2 is neither fully gratifying nor a house-of-horror like its prequel (or its equivalents).
