Just days before its release, Jannat 2 is hit by a plagiarism accusation levelled against the Bhatts and director Kunal Deshmukh by a budding writer in Mumbai.
A writer named Kapil Chopra has dragged the Bhatts to court on charges of stealing his script and turning into Jannat 2. A hearing of the case was held yesterday and since the matter is subjudice, both the parties -- the Bhatts and the litigator Kapil Chopra -- refuse to reveal any details about the fracas.
However, according to a source quoted by a tabloid, Kapil Chopra claims that a script registered by him with Film Writers Association in 2007 has now been plagiarized into the script of Jannat 2, starring Emraan Hashmi, Esha Gupta and Randeep Hooda. Chopra says he had narrated his story to Kunal Deshmukh -- the director of Jannat 2 -- and also left a copy of his script at the office of the Bhatts.
The source adds that Chopra was shocked when he saw the promos of Jannat 2. He reportedly noticed striking similarities between his script and that of Jannat 2, and therefore took the matter to court.
Chopra now seeks credit for the script of the film.
This is not the first time the Bhatts have been accused of plagiarism. Last year, there was a brouhaha over their Murder 2 being a copy of the Korean film The Chaser, but the Bhatts shot down the accusations with their characteristic audacity.
