Among the hordes of newcomers making their Bollywood debut this year, one of the prettiest is Alia Bhatt, daughter of Mahesh Bhatt.
Alia Bhatt has got a dream debut in Karan Johar’s next film Student Of The Year, which releases on October 19. She stars opposite two other newcomers, Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan.
Daughter of Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan, Alia harboured the dream of becoming a Bollywood heroine since her childhood. In her teens she was already aping many of her favourite actresses. But one thing didn’t qualify her to be the typical Hindi film heroine: Alia was a fatso.
She was introduced to Karan Johar by writer Niranjan Iyenger. The filmmaker was then auditioning for new faces for Student Of The Year. Grudgingly, Karan Johar nodded her to be included in the list of some 100 odd girls to be auditioned. And guess what, despite being overweight, Alia Bhatt made it to the final ten.
Karan Johar says there was something exuberant, confident and star-ly about Alia that made her stand out of the crowd. His only hiccup was her weight. So Karan Johar told her that she could get the role on one condition: she has to lose weight. Alia didn’t think twice before saying that she will.
Thereafter followed the rigorous workouts and diet regimens for Alia Bhatt. It took her three months to lose 16 kilos.
