Producer Sajid Nadiadwala seems to have gone through the critical bashing of Shirish Kunder’s film Joker, for the director has been ousted from Salman Khan’s film Kick being produced by Nadiadwala.
This revelation comes from none other than Kunder himself. Taking to Twitter just a day after the release and dismal box office opening of Joker, Shirish Kunder wrote: “Sajid Nadiadwala will be directing KICK. He had originally envisioned the project and I feel he is the best person to bring it to life.”
In case you don’t know, Kick is the Hindi remake of a 2009 Telugu blockbuster of the same name.
Shirish Kunder, who was previously gung-ho about directing Salman Khan in the remake, now seems to be trotting out the excuse that he wants to focus on making original films.
“I'll continue with my efforts to make original films and bring novel stories in a mainstream format. Remakes for now do not interest me,” Kunder wrote.
One wonders if Kunder is really so much focused on making ‘originals’ why did he nod Kick in the first instance. And the news of his ouster from the film does raise the doubt if he was booted out of the project because of Joker.
However, Kunder insists that he would keep going against the tide to make films with new concepts.
“It is easy for me to do what everyone else is doing or what is working. But I'll always choose to attempt something new with every film,” Kunder wrote.
Something good as well, apart from new, need we mention.
