The frenzy of Salman Khan fans was on display in full daylight in Kanpur on Sunday after a rumour spread in the city that the superstar was shooting for his film Dabangg 2 at the Bajariya Police Station.
Within hours, thousands of fans thronged the police station and waited impatiently for a glimpse of Salman Khan. The rumour was so strong that people even drove in or hiked from nearby towns and villages to see their favourite star shoot for Dabangg 2. The fact that the Bajariya Police Station was white-washed and cleaned only supported the rumour.
As the crowd got stronger, unruly, and impatient, the cops tried to disperse them by denying that Salman Khan was inside the police station. But the fans didn’t budge. So much so that the SUV of a local politician was gheraoed and brought to a halt on the suspicion that Salman was riding -- or hiding -- in the car. The politico had to roll down the windows of his car to give a visible proof to the fans that Salman wasn’t in the car.
But the fan frenzy didn’t abate. The crowd swelled so large that the traffic was disrupted. At last, the police had to resort to mild lathi charge to disperse the fans. In retaliation, some fans pelted back stones. It was only after the police arrested a few people that the situation came under control.
Salman Khan’s Dabangg 2 is slated to be shot in Kanpur this week. In the movie the superstar plays Chulbul Pandey, a corrupt but good-hearted cop from UP.
