|Even as the festivities of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s marriage continue in Delhi, the leading Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has termed the wedding as "anti-Islam".
The reason why the wedding has been labeled anti-Islam is because Kareena Kapoor, a Hindu, did not convert to Islam before the marriage.
According to the Deoband seminary located in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, “Kareena did not convert to Islam before her marriage with Saif. Islam does not approve of such marriages.”
Habibur Rahman, a senior cleric of the seminary, is quoted as saying by PTI: “According to the Muslim laws, since Kapoor has not converted to Islam, this marriage is anti-Islam.”
However, it is still not clear if Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan had a ‘nikah’ according to Muslim rites. The couple first had a registered marriage in Mumbai on October 16 and later threw a wedding reception where they exchanged marital vows. According to the close friends of the couple, it was not a ‘nikah’ as reported in some sections of the media, but a mere exchange of vows without any religious undertone.
Earlier, Kareena’s father Randhir Kapoor had ruled out the possibility of Kareena converting to Islam.
“Nobody is converting here -- one human being is getting married to another, so they are not concerned about caste, creed or breed. They are going in for a registered marriage, and as long as they are happy, they have my blessings,” Randhir Kapoor had told a news daily.
