|Director Anubhav Sinha already had Madhuri Dixit for his Gulab Gang, but the movie demanded another powerful actress, and the director has zeroed in on Juhi Chawla.
With this, Anubhav has indeed pulled off a casting coup of sorts. Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla, the two top actresses of the late 80s and 90s, never shared screen space together, and for the first time will be seen in Gulab Gang. Since the movie needs two strong performers, Anubhav couldn’t think of casting anyone else than Juhi after Madhuri. Moreover, Juhi has already been applauded for her spontaneous acting in the Diwali release Son Of Sardaar.
Talking about the two female leads, Anubhav Sinha tells a daily, “Gulab Gang is about two iconic female characters. I couldn’t have pulled off a better cast than the two most iconic female stars, Madhuri and Juhi, together for the first time on Indian screen.”
According to Anubhav, the film is an action-drama with two women at loggerheads. Thus he needed two actresses who would justifiably match up to each other in terms of their performance and stature.
Madhuri Dixit has already started working on her costumes and look for the film, and Juhi Chawla’s joining only adds to the spunk factor. The ‘Kurkure’ lady is excited about the prospect of doing this flick, and Anubhav Sinha is not mistaken if he thinks that this is the best cast his film can get. The film also stars the talented actresses like Mahie Gill and Shilpa Shukla of Chak De! India fame.
Gulab Gang is based on a true incident and an all-female gang called ‘Gulabi Gang’ from Uttar Pradesh’s Bundelkhand region. The gang stands for women suffering from domestic violence and other social problems. The founder of the group, Sampat Pal, was recently seen in ‘Bigg Boss 6’.
