We rubbed our eyes in disbelief after seeing the charming Farhan Akhtar as the lean athlete in the first look of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Now, when the teaser of the film is out we are at a loss for words. The actor looks convincing, believable as the legendary Indian athlete Milkha Singh.
Farhan Akhtar pitched himself headlong into the role while working in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. To get into the skin of the character of the ‘Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh, Farhan Akhtar not just grew his hair and beard, but also went on a diet to look lean like an athlete, and all this seems to have paid off well, because the actor surely will win hearts as Milkha Singh. The teaser trailer of the film only cements our conviction.
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. The director is back after a hiatus, and to work on Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was no less a dream for him. The movie also stars Sonam Kapoor. It’s learnt that Milkha Singh has sold the story for just one rupee. The remuneration from the movie will be used for the benefit of needy athletes.
While talking to IANS, Milkha Singh said, “In the past, many filmmakers had offered me crores of rupees to sell them my story but it was really difficult for me to believe anybody. This time my son Jeev, who had seen Mehra's ‘Rang De Basanti’, convinced me and said the film was in safe hands. Now I am very happy and I have charged only one rupee from them. I just want others to extract motivation out of the movie. They should believe in themselves: if a village boy like me can win laurels for the country with meager resources and virtually no support, why can't anyone else?”
The name of the movie, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, comes from the last words spoken by the sportsman’s father, an exhortation to Milkha to run and save his life from the rioting mob during the partition of India. Milkha Singh lost his family members during the riots.
