The tenuous Shanti that lasted for years between the Bollywood veteran actor Manoj Kumar and the makers of the Shahrukh Khan-starrer Om Shanti Om is on the verge of snapping again.
Last weekend, Om Shanti Om released in Japan and one person watching it all closely was Manoj Kumar, the 75-year-old actor who had taken on the likes of Shahrukh Khan and Farah Khan in 2007 for spoofing him in the film. Back then, SRK and Farah had brokered peace with the veteran and agreed to delete the objectionable scenes.
But Manoj Kumar is now aghast to know that the version of Om Shanti Om released in Japan included the scenes that spoofed him.
Not willing to take it lying down this time, he has approached his lawyers to initiate a legal action against the makers of the film.
“I am disappointed…My solicitors are looking into this now. They feel I am too lenient and have told me that they will handle the matter now,” Manoj Kumar is quoted as saying by TOI.
Farah Khan, who was in Japan for the premiere of Om Shanti Om, says she doesn’t know if the print included the scenes spoofing Manoj Kumar as she did not watch the film.
So as Manoj Kumar mulls a strong legal action against the film’s makers, we wonder what Shahrukh Khan’s reaction to this newly brewing controversy would be.
