|Remember the pleasing 1991 movie Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin starring Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt? Mahesh Bhatt, that film’s director, now wants to remake it and has cast his favourite and trusted Emraan Hashmi to play the male lead.
The remake would see a few departures from the original, even though the basic plotline would remain the same. For one, the character Emraan Hashmi plays would be of an unapologetic rake and not the loud, straight-as-a-die reporter.
Mahesh Bhatt says in a statement: “The film I directed was modelled on 'It Happened One Night' by Frank Capra, but didn't do justice to the hero's character. With this remake, we seek to do justice to the character played originally by Clark Gable, that of an unapologetic rake.”
Emraan Hashmi, who’s been keeping away from romantic roles for a while, will return to the Bhatt fold again with this film.
“Emraan fits this character like a glove. With this film, women will now fall in love with him,” Bhatt says.
The remake’s director has not yet been finalized.
With Emraan Hashmi stepping into Aamir Khan’s shoes, comparisons are bound to be made. While Aamir was a delight as a jobless, loudmouth reporter who says things as they are without any sugarcoating, even though they aren’t exactly music to the ears of the pampered daughter of a shipping tycoon who hates him initially but eventually falls in love with him. Emraan Hashmi, with his impish charm, will give a new twist to that character and make it rakish.
