Deewana was the film that gave a crucial fillip to Shahrukh Khan’s fledgling career way back in 1992. Now, producer Guddu Dhanoa plans to make a sequel.
However, Dhanoa has hinted that the story in new Deewana will not be in any way connected with the 1992 flick. In fact, from what the producer says, it looks like he’s cashing in on the sequel fad that’s seen the success of films like Murder 2 and Raaz 3.
“We are making a romantic film but it is a completely different story. We are using the title 'Deewana' but something would be added to the title. It is like how Bhatt's are making films like 'Murder', 'Jannat' I am also doing something similar,” Dhanoa is quoted as saying by a news agency.
Dhanoa added that no actor has so far been finalized for the new Deewana, but hunt is on for suitable actors. He refuses to confirm or deny if Shahrukh Khan will be part of the sequel. Given the way Deewana ended -- with SRK winning the love of Divya Bharti -- there is a scope to carry forward that role.
Directed by Raj Kanwar, Deewana had SRK playing the role of a very obsessive lover who goes to great lengths to win the love of the woman he desires. The film was a hit and it got Shahrukh a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
