Deepika Padukone almost got pelted with eggs and tomatoes by protesters during the garba festivities in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The actress might have found herself at the receiving end of the anger of the agitators who had gathered armed with tomatoes and eggs to protest against her upcoming film Ram-Leela.
We hear that members of the Jadeja and Rabari community arrived at the garba function to express their displeasure over some content in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film that allegedly shows the two communities in bad light.
Deepika Padukone was ready to attend the festivities. The situation was tense but the eggs and tomatoes weren’t put to their intended use as the protestors were assured that the ‘objectionable’ content had been re-dubbed in Ram-Leela.
The situation was diffused, the protestors left, and Deepika Padukone continued with the function.
Ram-Leela has ruffled some feathers ever since the film’s trailer was launched. An adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the film has Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone playing the character Ram and Leela who hail from rival communities.
Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has made it clear that there is no intention to hurt the sentiments of any community. Still, the director has decided to remove the content deemed objectionable.
