Sajid Khan’s movie Housefull, slammed by critics but loved by masses has brought cheer to the box office once again. After a lull that lasted more than a month during the course of the IPL, theatres are once again witnessing good number of footfalls, thanks to the wholesome entertainment provided by the film.

The film has turned out to be the biggest grosser since 3 Idiots (released during Xmas last year) with a more than decent earning of Rs 48 crore gross in India and Rs. 16 crore gross overseas during its first weekend. Though the film performed fairly well in India, its performance at box office abroad hasn’t been up to the expectations.

“With its excellent weekend performance, the biggest of the year so far, Housefull has lived up to its name,” Nandu Ahuja, Senior Vice President (distribution) of Eros International Media Limited is quoted to have said.

Meanwhile, the other release of the week, Chase, has fallen flat at box office. The movie opened to a very dull audience response of just 5 percent.

The attention now shifts to the coming Friday’s release Badmaash Company starring Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in lead roles. Yashraj Films is desperate for a hit movie to end the string of flops it has produced lately.
