The recent film to join the league of all-time blockbusters of Bollywood is the Salman Khan film Dabangg. The movie has made a whopping Rs 127 crores from its first seventeen days and is still continuing its dream run.
According to trade reports Dabangg is 17th film in the list of all-time blockbusters of Indian cinema. An all-time blockbuster differs from a blockbuster because of its humongous revenue and craze. Some of the classic films which were all-time blockbusters are - Mother India (1957), Mughal-E-Azam (1960), Jai Santoshi Maa (1975), Sholay (1975) and Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985).
After these films, came Sooraj Barjatya’s Maine Pyar Kiya with a fresh cast. That was the year 1989 which marked the beginning of a golden era for Indian films in terms of box office business. The years 1989-2001 witnessed all-time blockbusters almost every year, which was a rarity before. Last year’s release 3 Idiots also enjoyed the status of being an all-time blockbuster.
