Silk and Sensuality
Art imitates life. The tragic story of the late south siren Silk Smitha, her struggle, her rise to fame, her exploitation by men, and her mysterious death, makes for a tale worth telling.
This Friday’s release The Dirty Picture is inspired from the life of Silk Smitha, even though the makers have begun to deny it lately because of controversies. Vidya Balan plays the south siren named Silk in the movie.
So it’s befitting to pay a tribute to the woman hauled back from the faded memories into the spotlight again. And what better way to do that than to recount her life story and complement it with the images that show her at her sexiest best, something that came as naturally to her as breathing.
Silk Smitha came from a humble background. She couldn’t study beyond fourth standard because of financial constraints and was married off at a young age by her mother. Thereafter began the journey that saw Silk Smitha emerging the undisputed sex bomb of the 1980s. But her downslide came as swift as her rise to fame. How? Read on ahead...
