It’s hard to not get carried away while choosing the best cinematic moments of Rajesh Khanna, the deceased actor who, in his hey days, was the first to be bestowed with the SUPERSTAR tag in Hindi cinema. His legacy lives on with the memorable films he gave us in a career spanning more than four decades.
Rajesh Khanna is no more with us. And truth be told, people may not have missed him a lot in films during his last years. But he was -- and is and will be -- an important, irreplaceable part of Indian cinema, a stalwart who’ll be remembered through the roles he immortalized. Who can forget the happy death-embracer Anand, or the buoyant airforce officer Arun singing “Mere Sapno Ki Rani” atop an open jeep, or the gullible Bhola and wily Ranjith of Sachaa Jhutha, or the endearing elephant lover Raju of Haathi Mere Saathi, or the lovelorn tippler Anand Babu of Amar Prem, or the happy-go-lucky cook Raghu of Bawarchi. One can go on and on while recounting his beautiful cinematic moments that fill the lives of his many fans.
Girls swooned over him, wrote love letters in blood to him, married his photos, and though Rajesh Khanna had his share of love affairs, it was Dimple Kapadia, 15 years younger to him, whom he took as his wife in 1973. At that time Rajesh Khanna was still at the peak of his acting career, his Golden Jubilee period that lasted from 1969 to 1975. But that was not the end of Khanna’s stardom. More hit films were on the way.
Here’s recounting Rajesh Khanna’s best cinematic moments.
