Go Wakda with 'Aiyyaa'
Say goodbye to the Rani Mukerji of yore. The erstwhile queen of melodrama is now the brazen, brash Marathi mulgi who flutters her eyelashes, does the raunchy jig, and unwaveringly pursues the man whose scent has caught her fancy. Welcome to the new, feisty Rani Mukerji promising to bring the house down in her new movie Aiyyaa.

The film, co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and Viacom 18, is directed by Sachin Kundalkar. It introduces to Bollywood the tall, dark, handsome and brawny Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran, as Rani’s love interest.

The movie has Rani Mukerji playing the character of Meenakshi Deshpande, a Maharashtrian girl whose parents are desperate to get her married.

Talking about her role, Rani has said that it has always been a dream for her to play a Maharashtrian girl.

“I have always said that I am actually a Maharashtrian girl because I have been born and brought up in Maharashtra. Being a Mumbaikar, Marathi language is not alien to me. It was my dream or wish that some day I should play a Marathi girl's role and with 'Aiyyaa', this dream has come true,” the 34-year-old actress said.

Aiyyaa is a welcome departure for Rani Mukerji after a slew of serious, dark and weepy roles. The role is indeed bold and required Rani to do raunchy dances as well.
