She has made heads turn with her beauty, charisma and, of course, stylish attires at the ongoing 66th Cannes Film Festival. Aishwarya Rai has now bid adieu to Cannes 2013 with her last red-carpet appearance at amfAR gala where she arrived in a couture golden saree by Tarun Tahiliani. Does she impress the fashion police?
This year, Aishwarya Rai chose outfits by Indian designers for most of her red carpet looks, except the Gucci gown for the screening of the film Behind the Candelabra and the Elie Saab gown she wore to the premiere of Inside Llewyn Davis which also happens to be her best look at the red carpet this year.
For amfAR gala, Aishwarya chose a saree by the ace Indian fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani, and went golden from top to toe. Be it her saree, or high-neck blouse or earrings -- Aishwarya literally shone on the red carpet. But how does this blingy look fare with fashion police?
While Aishwarya Rai pulled off the look with grace and poise, for many, the look was a downer, considering her all-gold attire, especially the blouse which looked matronly, and a dramatic pulled back high updo. Aishwarya’s make-up also did little to jazz up her look. Wish she had let her hair loose.
But there is a reason behind this golden look. The amfAR gala this year pays a tribute to Elizabeth Taylor with a gold-themed fashion show that also includes creations by Tarun Tahiliani. So, Aishwarya Rai was decked up to suit the theme, and even chose a Tarun Tahiliani.
