A Punjabi track set in a Baisakhi mela with the leading man dressed in a turban. Yet, the Besharam song “Aa Re Aa Re” has nothing Punjabi in its lyrics or music.
This is one of the oddest songs we’ve seen in a while. There’s nothing Punjabi about the track’s audio, save for singer Mika Singh’s nasal rendering. Yet the visuals, the costumes, the dances all are soused in Punjabi flavour. What was director Abhinav Singh Kashyap thinking?
The track ‘Aa Re Aa Re’ has Ranbir Kapoor and Pallavi Sharda dancing in a Baisakhi mela. The duo drives in and wastes no time in getting jiggy.
“Arre aa re aa re, tere bina re, rah jayenge hum kunware,” croons Ranbir Kapoor. Pallavi Sharda replies, “Arre ja re ja re muh dho ke aa, humko na chuna laga re.”
The lyrics -- if you are marveling their banality -- are by Rajeev Barnal. The track is sung by Mika Singh and Shreya Ghosal, and choreographed by Rekha and Chinni Prakash.
Nothing in the track clicks. The music is pretty average, choreography bad and direction worse. Never has a Punjabi track set in a Baisakhi mela sounded this bad.
