She teases him ‘Chingam Chabake’. And he sticks to her Chumbak Lagake. Well, such is the droll humour in the new song ‘Chingam Chabake’ from director Puneet Malhotra’s upcoming film Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, featuring Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan.
The song is right on the lines of the rustic items like ‘Fevicol Se’ or ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’. It’s set in a village wedding. Imran Khan plays the city-bred Sriram. Kareena Kapoor plays the gaon ki gori Dia.
“O re chhore..ghuma di kaisi chabhi, kismat ke hain taale khule..” she teases him. He jumps in, “O ri chhori, teri vajah se poore sare mere iraade hue..”
There’s banter, teasing and pulling of legs between the two as Imran, dressed in a kurta and dhoti, girds up his loins for a rustic jig.
For all the energy Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor pump into the song, Chingam Chabake remains pretty ordinary mainly because of its pedestrian lyrics by Anvita Dutt Guptan, Kausar Munir and Kumaar. Shankar Mahadevan and Shalmali Kholgade sing the number with gusto but can’t make up for a tawdry composition by Vishal-Shekhar.
