The name of this film speaks for its theme. 'Blackmail' is the story of kidnapping and ransom. The tale is quite predictable, but embellished with doses of adrenalin-pumping action by Ajay Devgan and Sunil Shetty.
The film has Devgan playing a speed freak who uses his car-racing skills to make money by hook or by crook. Sitting behind the wheel, he can dodge any skilled chaser.
On the other hand, ACP Abhay Rathod (Sunil Shetty) is a dutiful cop making life tough for all the baddies in the town. Abhay has also given Shekhar some hard time and is indirectly responsible for the death of Shekhar's beloved wife Anjali (Dia Mirza).
So when the notorious baddie Chhota (Mukesh Rishi) hires Shekhar to settle an old score with Abhay, Shekhar decides to hit Abhay where it can hurt him the most.
Abhay is a family man living a content life with his wife Sana (Priyanka Chopra) and son Chirag (Parth Dave). Shekhar begins to stalk Abhay's family.
In the meantime, Shekhar comes to know that he has a son from Anjali. But Abhay is the only one who knows about it.
There are few surprises in the story but the end is quite predictable.
'Blackmail' is directed by Ajay Devgan's cousin Anil. He comes forth as a polished director but what he lacks is a good and fresh story. There is nothing new in 'Blackmail' that we haven't seen in umpteen other films of similar theme.
Ajay Devgan is one reason why 'Blackmail' becomes watchable. His acting is superb and his portions with Dia Mirza add some romance to the story. Priyanka Chopra does a commendable job and Sunil Shetty is just about OK. He keeps re-playing himself all the time.
While the songs in the film are simply uninspiring and out of place, the action sequences, supported by punchy music and slick editing make the movie watchable.
