An animal lover Rajesh Khanna is torn between his animals and his wife. Yes, that's the story in short, of Haathi Mere Saathi.
Initially, Tanuja falls in love with the charming Khanna but later develops a phobia towards his animals, especially the elephants, who she fears will kill her baby.
The couple fights and they separate. But in the end, when the elephant dies saving her baby, Tanuja realizes her mistakes. She comes back to her husband.
