SCOOP!! & NEWS Jo Bole So Nihaal withdrawn from some theatres20th May 2005 14.06 IST By Agencies Within hours of the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) demanding a ban on controversial Hindi film Jo Bole So Nihaal , the distributors on Thursday withdrew the movie from theatres across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. The SGPC on Thursday had demanded an immediate ban on the controversial film saying it was "damaging the Sikh psyche".
The Sikh religious body has also constituted a five-member committee to prepare a report on the film within two days, which would be submitted, to the Cultural Affairs Ministry, Home Ministry and Film Censor Board. "A meeting of the SGPC committee here unanimously resolved that the screening of the film should be stopped till it was finally approved by the religious body (SGPC)," SGPC Chief Bibi Jagir Kaur told reporters after chairing the meeting in Chandigarh. "The film is polluted and has shown religion as well as Sikh character in bad light," she said adding "the title of the film should be changed in view of historical aspects and traditions of Sikhism." "Scenes in the film which are enacted in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib should be removed and also those scenes where Gurbani is quoted with distortions," she said.
