Noted actor-parliamentarian Sunil Dutt , who passed away in May this year, was remembered at the ongoing 36th IFFI on Friday with the screening of his debut film as producer 'Mujhe Jeene Do', considered one of the most sensitive films on dacoits at the INOX.
Contrary to the expectation, Sanjay Dutt did not make it to the presentation. But, it was his brother-in-law actor Kumar Gaurav who was present.
'Mujhe Jeene Do' was close to Dutt's heart because it was his foray into production.
'Mujhe Jeene Do', starring Dutt himself and Waheeda Rehman , was part of the competition section at Cannes film festival in 1964.
Festival director Afzal Amanullah said he had personally chosen the film because it was inspiring to the youth to shun violence.
From an idealistic young man in films like ‘Sujata’, ‘Hum Hindustani’ to the anti-hero in 'Mother India', 'Mujhe Jeene Do' and 'Amrapali', Dutt has done it all, not to forget comedies like 'Ek Phool Chaar Kante', Padosan , social dramas like 'Ghazal', 'Mehrbaan' and 'Meri Bhabhi'.
