HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HAPPENINGS Hazarika responding well to treatment19th Apr 2006 11.06 IST By Agencies Legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika was responding well to treatment for the 'mild cerebral stroke' he had suffered while performing at a Bihu function on Sunday night and also had lunch on Tuesday. The authorities of the Guwahati Neurological and Research Centre, where he was admitted in the early hours on Monday, described his condition as 'stable' and said that the 80-year-old singer had a good night's sleep and had tea this morning as well as a light lunch of rice and dal.
Hazarika underwent a magnetic resonance imaging scan this morning to know the extent of his stroke, the authorities said. His health was being constantly monitored by doctors at the intensive care unit where he was kept for observation. The singer received Asom Gana Parishad President Brindaban Goswami at the hospital on Tuesday. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and All Assam Students Union Advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjee were among those who had visited the hospital on Monday. Hazarika's companion and Hindi filmmaker Kalpana Lazmi also arrived on Monday. The singer while performing at a stage show in Noonmati Bihutoli on Sunday night during Bihu celebrations experienced back pain and could not continue singing. The performance was being telecast live. The Mumbai-based octogenarian singer, who was in his home state Assam to participate in the Rongali Bihu and Assamese New Year celebrations, has cancelled his three other stage shows but "promised to be back and sing on the same stage".
