HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HAPPENINGS Indian movies to be screened at Pak film festival10th Dec 2006 10.00 IST By Agencies Two popular Bollywood flicks will be shown at a leading Pakistani film festival despite a government ban on public screening of Indian movies in the country since 1965. Bollywood releases, Woh Lamhe and Omkara feature in the prime screenings of the Kara film festival, which began on Saturday in Karachi.
On Saturday, the filmgoers got the chance to watch Bhatt's 'Woh Lamhe', while on the final day 'Omkara' is to be screened. Saif Ali Khan , Ajay Devgan and director Vishal Bhardwaj are also expected to participate at the Question and Answer session after screening of ‘Omkara’. The event has become Pakistan's leading film festival and is being recognised internationally as a breaking ground for makers of alternate cinema in South and Central Asia to promote and find a platform to distribute their products. Other popular alternate films like 'Road to Guantanamo', 'Honour and Shame' and 'Immaculate Conception' are also scheduled for screening at the festival. Pakistan's biggest hit this year 'Mahajan' will also be screened during the nine-day festival. "The festival started off an experiment six years ago and was basically meant to highlight alternate cinema and documentaries but it has now evolved into something bigger," said Hasan Zaidi, the brainchild behind the project. Indian filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt , a regular at the festival since its inception, believes the event has also served a common meeting ground and the chance for interaction between Pakistani and Indian filmmakers. Zaidi said some 170 films including 40 feature films, more than 30 documentaries and shortfilms from 37 different countries are to be screened at the festival.
