Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan created an atmosphere of a rare literary evening in New York as he recited poems written by his late father Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
At the event organised by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, USA, to mark the birth centenary of the elder Bachchan, Amitabh recited five poems of his father, ending with 'Madhu Shala'.
Another highlight of the event on Saturday evening was a dance drama 'Jeevan', based on Harivansh Rai's poems. The dance drama was conducted by renowned Kathak dancer and choreographer Vaswati Misra and her group of artistes. Some of the performances presented by the troupe were based on 'Madhu Shala.'
The Bhavan presented a memento to Amitabh for his services to art while a book on Harivansh Rai Bachchan edited by Pushpa Bharati was released on the occasion.
Amitabh, who was voted greatest film star of the millennium in a BBC poll, has acted in more than 150 films during his career spanning 37 years.
