Yash Chopra credits his success to his brother

Producer-director Yash Chopra credits his success to his brother B.R. Chopra saying whatever he is today is because of him.

Chopra, who was in the national capital New Delhi recently to inaugurate a film festival on legendary filmmaker and his elder brother B.R. Chopra, attributed his craft of filmmaking from his brother.

When asked how the brothers differed in their style of making films Chopra said, "My style of filmmaking is different from that of my brother. My films may have more romance but they are not without a social message."

The elder Chopra is known for making films on burning social issues and Nehruvian ideals like 'Naya Daur', 'Sadhana', 'Nikaah' and 'Insaaf Ka Tarazu' while Chopra is known in the film industry for a series of romantic films like 'Silsila', Kabhie Kabhie , 'Noorie', 'Chandni', and Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge .

The director credited his brother for his success saying "He took me as an assistant and gave me my first chance with 'Dhool Ka Phool'. Whatever I am today is because of him. I learned the craft of filmmaking from my brother," adding "I would love to work again as his assistant."

Noting that only B.R. Chopra had the courage to break away from the tried and tested ways of Indian film industry, Chopra said, "He made films on his own conclusions. When he started 'Ek Hi Raasta' people told him to make changes in the film but he refused."

"Many people tried to discourage him during the making of 'Naya Daur' saying that it was a documentary film but he refused to buckle under pressure and the film went on to create box office history," Chopra recalled.
