'Ninaithale' - Good Movie

Kollywood continues to be bitten by the remake bug. The latest to hop on to the remake bandwagon is debutant director Viswas N. Sundar.

Be that as it may, Sundar’s maiden directorial venture ‘Ninaithale’ – a remake of Sekhar Kanmula’s Telugu film ‘Anand’ – is no damp squib. If anything, the movie seems to have struck a responsive chord among the Tamil film fans who are in a mood to encourage offbeat cinema these days.

The

original proved a huge hit and was acclaimed as a kind of trailblazer in Tollywood. Sundar has done full justice to the theme in the remake, too.

What adds to Sundar’s credit is that a bunch of newcomers have justified the faith he had reposed them by coming out with praiseworthy performances.

The hero, Suchin, is the son of top Bollywood heroine of yesteryears, Vyjayanthimala. Well, the son has well and truly inherited the acting genes from his illustrious mother. An impressive debut, indeed. The same can be said about the heroine, Nargis, too. The girl has done a polished job of it. One does not feel that it is her first film.

Here is the story. Rupa (Nargis) is struck by tragedy when her parents get killed in an accident. With the support of near and dear ones, Rupa picks up the pieces of her shattered life and comes up trumps through sheer dint of hard work.

She falls in love with her colleague Sarfraz (Rahul). But their marriage plans go awry when Rahul’s mother disapproves of it. Enters Anand (Suchin), who is present at the wedding by sheer chance. Anand takes an instant liking for Rupa. With the help of his friend Narayanan (Krishna), Anand, son of a rich businessman, tries to woo Rupa. The plot thickens when Rupa learns that it was Anand’s parents who were responsible for the accident that killed her parents.

Does he succeed in wearing down the opposition of Rupa and marrying her? That forms the theme of ‘Ninaithale’.

Music composer Vijay Anthony’s tunes are foot-tapping, and Madhi continues the good work with camera as in his earlier flick, ‘Veyil’.

All in all, it is a movie that would go down well with the youth. If the attendance at the theatres is any guide, they have liked ‘Ninaithale’. And that is a happy thought for Sundar.
