When music director Himesh Reshammiya composes tunes set to Sameer's lyrics for a comedy movie by David Dhawan, one already knows what to expect.

The music of Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Sohail Khan, Sushmita Sen and Arshad Warsi starrer Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya is lively, funky and foot-savvy. Melody, we shall not expect much from this one.

‘Just Chill’, the opening track hints at the flavor of music in the entire album. A club number picturized on Salman and Katrina, this song is a pure dance number sung beautifully by new-find Amrita Kak, who brings about the necessary modulation and accentuation in her singing to suit Katrina. Sonu Nigam does a fine job with his carefree singing style. The album also features a heavy-beat remix version of the song by Akbar Sami.

The party mood continues with the next number Dil Di Nazar, a fast paced track sung by newcomer Priya with Shaan, Neeraj (of Bombay Vikings) and Shaznine. The song has a hip-hop sound that will particularly appeal to the teenagers. A digitally enhanced version of the same song appears as its remix later in the album.

Can a Reshammiya album be complete without references to Chunri, Dupatta, Payal and Choori? Certainly not! So come in some desi jhatkas with Laga Prem Rog, which has been sung quite spiritedly by Alka Yagnik. Soft and mellow singing by Kamaal Khan pales in front of Yagnik’s vivacious rendition. In the film, the song shows Sushmita Sen, clad in an orange sari, seducing Salman. The remix version of this song has a reggae feel.

Ishq Chunaria sounds more like a rehash of Reshammiya’s previous compositions. The lyrics by Sameer are mushy and trite. Thankfully, this one doesn’t have a remix.

No better is the following composition, Sajan Tumse Pyar, which is based on quite a plain melody. Singers Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik try to put some vigor into this number, but all in vain.

Yeh Ladki is a poorly composed dance track that becomes tolerable only because of some good singing by Kamaal Khan and Sunidhi Chauhan.

Teri Meri Love Story features Salman and Sohail vying to woo Katrina. Sung by Shaan, Babul Supriyo and Sunidhi Chauhan, the song is a funky track with a foot-savvy rhythm.

In a nutshell, the music of Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya does not boast of melodious compositions. But it does promise a good range of dance tracks, set in both western and desi styles.
