'Gota' goes contemporary at WIFW

Designer Jenjum Gadi, known for his textures and hand-woven designs, chose to play with the 'gota', giving it a contemporary look on final day of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) spring-summer here Wednesday.

"When I started designing and came across gota, I thought it was a tacky thing. I never liked it for being so shiny. But with time, I started liking it and slowly started working with it. This time, I thought I'll make a complete collection with gota," Gadi told reporters after his show.

The look of the collection was young and contemporary. The silhouettes saw a mix of draped and structured garments. The colours used were bright with shades of gota used to enhance the garments.

The male models wore jackets heavily embellished with gota rolls.

Gadi used different types of gota - gota rolls, thin gota and thick gota.

"The whole idea was to give gota, which is traditional, a modern look. I gave a more fun and contemporary touch to it. I used different types of gota, applied different cuts, stitching techniques, but still there was an Indianess to it," Gadi said.

In his garments, there was a lot of hand embroidery, machine embroidery, zardozi and slight of sequins used in his own way with mix and match.

The designer shared his show with Pia Pauro who showcased a mix of fun, flirty and glamorous collection.

Her design philosophy was dominated by colours and 'ikkat' prints with lot of beadwork.

"My collection was more of resort wear with lots of jumpsuits, bikinis and kaftans and dresses in silk satin, silk georgette and cotton silk. I have paid an ode to women who want to look glamorous and love experimenting with looks," said Pauro.

She used jute bags and earrings embellished with ostrich feathers in her collection.
