"F" word chopped from 'Dostana'!

To begin with, the movie's story is quite bold from the Bollywood standards. It has John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan pretending as gays. There are scenes aplenty in which the two are shown walking hand-in-hand and even doing a cozy dance together.

But the Censor Board is okay with such scenes. What the board has objected to is some dialogues that have objectionable words like 'F***', 'sex' and 'napunsak' (impotent).


The movie has a background score that goes "What the Funk". But officials of Censor Board felt it sounded like "What the F***" and asked Karan Johar to mute the word.

But what's surprising is the board's objection to the use of a common word like sex.

There is a scene in the movie in which Bobby Deol , who plays an actual gay, is told that he would have to do sex with a partner. "Sex karna hoga" is the precise dialogue. The board felt that the dialogue is very suggestive and had to be muted.

Then again, there is another scene in which John calls Abhishek "napunsak". The folks at Censor Board felt the dialogue is in poor taste and should be muted.

It can be recalled that the word "napunsak" was not chopped from a dialogue in Heyy Babyy .

As the situation now stands, 'Dostana' has been given a U/A certificate against the U certificate that Karan and director Tarun Mansukhani wanted. A U/A certificate means limited audiences at the theatres and this seems to have - ahem - funked Karan off.

But there is hardly anything the producer can do now. The film, starring Priyanka Chopra as female lead, is set for a November 14 release. It also has a sizzling item song by Shilpa Shetty .

The flick promises full fun, frolic and fizz. What the funk if few dialogues are muted!
