'13B' to be remade in Hollywood?

Well, here at last is an exception. The just-released horror film 13B has not just spooked fans in India but has evoked interest from across the Atlantic as well. Hollywood studio Weinstein Company is keen to buy the remake rights of the movie.

Confirming the news, a spokesman of Reliance BIG Pictures (producers of '13B') told a news agency: "Yes, Weinstein Company has indeed shown a keen interest in the film. They have asked us to send them over the entire script of the film. Though they are seeing the film as well, they want to go through the script in detail to consider its adaptation as per western sensibilities."


'13B', stars Madhavan and Neetu Chandra in lead and is written and directed by Vijay Kumar. The film tells the story of a family that moves into a new apartment and finds their lives eerily replicating the happenings on a TV soap. Weinstein Company wants to know more about the film before buying the rights to make it into a Hollywood spook-fest.

The fact that a small-budgeted film with simple cast is being considered for an English remake by a reputed US company shows that a well written film with good execution proves to be a winner.

The director of '13B' attributes this development to the success of Slumdog Millionaire which has been instrumental in drawing the attention of westerners to Indian cinema.

Going strong at box office in its second week, '13B' follows the trend of good horror films made recently in India, like Phoonk , 1920 and Raaz - The Mystery Continues .

The Weinstein Company is an American film studio founded by Harvey and Bob Weinstein. The studio has released films like Pierce Brosnan's 'The Matador', Jennifer Aniston starrer 'Derailed' and Felicity Huffman's 'Transamerica' in the past.
