He could probably be called the oldest newcomer in Bollywood.
Branded as "nothing to write home about" actor with only a beefcake physique and a cute smile to commend, Milind Soman has finally made it to the silver screen with Esmayeel Shroff's soon-to-be-released 'Tarkieb'.
In 'Tarkieb' the "made in India" tagged model plays the lover boy opposite Tabu. The film features seasoned names like Nana Patekar, Shilpa Shetty, Aditya Pancholi and Ashutosh Rana. Candidly Milind admits that working with co-stars like Nana Patekar and Tabu has been a valuable experience for him - "the experience of 'Tarkieb' has made me realize that acting is more about getting to know yourself and projecting yourself."
A national swimming champion and a marine engineer, Milind as a teenager wanted to learn scuba diving before he got the offer for a modeling assignment. His finely chiseled face took him to the modeling ramps in London and Paris. But, with time, he began to look beyond the ramps. Appreciation from the fashion fraternity failed to satiate him and he began to look for something more substantial.
This prompted him to take to acting in front of the camera. But things didn't turn out that well for him and after he was dropped out of Amol Palekar's 'Daayra', it dawned on him that to be a successful actor one needed talent more than good looks.
Today, looking back, one can agree that Milind has done a nice medley of roles on T.V. He has played a rejected lover in 'Margarita', a marine cop in 'Sea Hawks', a superhero in 'Captain Vyom', Jahangir in 'Noorjahan' and a modern-day Hamlet in 'Deewarein'.
Now disciplined by TV, Milind is all set to take the film industry by storm as he expected to be seen in more catty roles on the silver screen.
