After Fiza's release, the nation's heartthrob will set out on a mission to Kashmir. That is to say, Vidhu Vinod Chopra latest venture Mission Kashmir.
Mission Kashmir is a hard-hitting feature revolving around the turmoil and turbulence in the Kashmir region between 1989 and 1999.
The film has Sanjay Dutt playing Hrithik’s foster father. Renowned Marathi actress Sonali Kulkarni is his wife and Preity Zinta is a Kashmiri Hindu and Hrithik's romantic interest.
Sanjay Dutt, a BSF soldier accidentally kills a Muslim family. The entire family is wiped out and the only person who lives to avenge their death is Hrithik
Hrithik comes to know that Sanjay and Sonali have no children of their own so he gets himself adopted by them. Meanwhile, he remains a frustrated man fired by a burning desire to avenge his family.
Ultimately he decides to take help from Jackie Shroff, a terrorist leader belonging to the group of Osma Bin Laden to kill his foster parents and destroy the Indian Army camps as well.
This is Hrithik's mission in Kashmir until he meets Preity Zinta, who tries to bring out the human in him. A well conceived plot, which should go down well with the audience.
The music is the highlight of the film as Vidhu has roped in a host of music directors to pack in the extra punch to the mission. There is Sandeep Chowta followed by Vishal Bharadwaj, Shankar Mahadeven, Eshaan and Loy Mendonsa, to name a few.
Mission Kashmir was originally planned with Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan in father and son roles. Aishwarya was signed opposite Khan, who opted out having developed cold feet at the prospect shooting around in militant infested Kashmir.
As for Preity, Vidhu Vinod Chopra says, “She looks like a perfect Kashmiri”. Rest is to be seen whether the mission booms or bombs at the box-office.
