Her finely chiseled face and svelte figure may be her prime assets, but Namrata Shirodkar doesn’t want to be tagged with the dumb blonde image.
The cold spell that she had with her earlier inconsequential films like ‘Mere Do Anmol Ratan’ and ‘Hero Hindustani’ thawed after she cut a dash in Mahesh Manjrekar’s ‘Vaastav’. This, added with her another splendid performance in Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Pukar’, gave her career the much needed boost.
Namrata has finally broken the ice and made the critics who had labeled her as jinxed and wooden eat their words.
Having recently grabbed attention with her cameo dance sequence in the comic caper ‘Hera Pheri’, Namrata has got another promising act to follow in D. Rama Naidu’s soon-to-be released ‘Aghaaz’. She plays a young, carefree girl, full of vivacity and joie de vivre. However, her character acquires serious shades after she meets the film’s hero, Sunil Shetty.
There is certainly more to Namrata than meets the eye. It is not for nothing that she has become the favorite of the directors she has worked with.
So impressed was Rajkumar Santoshi by her performance in ‘Pukar’ that he offered her a meaty role for his next film ‘Lajja’ which unfortunately Namrata couldn’t clinch owing to dates problem. She is also a regular in Mahesh Manjrekar’s films. Safely tugged under her belt are plum roles in Mahesh’s forthcoming ‘Astitva’ and ‘Tera Mera Sath Rahe’.
It took Namrata three years of struggle to make her mark in the tinsel town. Now that her hard work has begun to pay there is every reason for her to be on cloud nine.
