It pays to have connections in the film industry. Karan Nath, son of Rakesh “Rikku” Nath (secretary of leading Bollywood stars) is looking forward to a flourishing career under the arc lamps, thanks to his distinguished lineage.
There is little to wonder that although Karan’s debut film Joy Augustine’s “Paagalpan” is yet to hit the marquee his kitty his full of about half a dozen plum projects. The petite lad with the well-toned physique is already working on a Tips film “Friends”, Kuku Kohli’s “Yeh Dil Ashiqana” and Vimal Kumar’s “Aashiqi Deewangi”. Besides these he has also signed Venus’ “Love in Kashmir” and a film with Raman Kumar. Not a bad start for a newcomer, one can say.
Yet much would depend on how movie buffs accept him in his launch pad “Paagalpan” in which he is cast opposite debutant Aarti, who was born and brought up in the US. Another girl, Sambhavana Seth, completes the love triangle.
The film is a romantic thriller with enough suspense strewn here and there to get the adrenalin flowing. The real punch in the story comes with the unexpected murder of his character in the film – an incident that shocks the two girls in his life to the point of madness.
Karan, once a Tennis player at the National Level could have continued to deliver aces albeit on the playing court, had the razzle-dazzle of tinsel town not lured him. And with dad Rakesh Nath rubbing shoulders with the who’s who of the industry (he is secretary to Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor, Amisha Patel and others) donning the greasepaint was never a far cry for Karan. Yet when Joy Augustine approached him four years back for a role Karan refused him, as he “needed to learn the ropes of the game first”. However he gave his consent when Augustine gave him the script of “Paagalpan”.
