Lissome Karisma Kapoor has joined the league of top Bollywood actresses like Madhuri Dixit, Tabu and Aishwarya Rai, by winning the prestigious Smita Patil Memorial Award for 2002.
The award, started by the Priyadarshini Academy in 1987 as a dedication to late actress Smita Patil, is given to Karisma in appreciation of her acting talent.
Dubbing the award as a “great honor” Karisma said that she has always admired Smita Patil’s work. She also thanked director Shyam Benegal for giving a “wonderful opportunity to act in Zubeida”, a semi realistic film that has won Lolo many plaudits.
Karisma will formally receive the award by Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani at an elaborate function to be held on September 19th in Mumbai.
