Having acted in a number of Bollywood films, svelte actress Sonali Bendre is now developing a penchant for roles in art films.
Sonali, who was last seen alongside Ajay Devgan in Mahesh Manjrekar’s semi-realistic flick Tera Mera Saath Rahe, is reported to have bagged the leading role in Amol Palekar’s Marathi feature film Anaahat, meaning eternity.
The film, written by Palekar’s second wife Sandhya Gokhale along with Sameer Kulkarni, is a period drama set in 10th century AD India. Yet the issues dealt in the film are quite contemporary, and have a universal appeal.
Amol, who has won international acclaim for his films like Daayra and Kairee, has got special permission from the archaeological department to shoot the movie at the ancient sites in Hampi in Karnataka.
The film also stars Anant Nag and Deepti Naval in supporting roles.
